Education
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Drama from Flinders University, then did Honours, in Creative Writing from Adelaide University many years later. I've got a Diploma of Education from La Trobe University. After making a TV series about writers, I enrolled in a PhD course in Creative Writing from Adelaide University and graduated in 2007. I did a Diploma of Management in 2011 while working at the ABC.
Experience
I taught years 7 through 11 English and Drama for three years at a private secondary school in Melbourne. I also taught Writing for Film and Television to post-secondary students at TAFE SA for more than 10 years. I've worked for many years as a freelance writer and director, working on everything from TV commercials to corporate videos, documentaries, and TV programs. I've worked as a copywriter for many years. I directed an ABC TV series, Writing on Writing, that was called 'the best show on ABC' and co-edited the book of the series published by Penguin. I've written a dozen published short stories, won over a dozen awards, and produced more than 200 hours of international television for ABC. Much of my TV work has been working with international students from Asia, so I feel very familiar with some of the challenges they face at university. My PhD novel, Pangamonium, and exegesis were both published. The novel was optioned for film and I wrote the screenplay. I've mentored over a dozen students from the University of Adelaide. I enjoy working with students as I feel I learn as much as they do. I feel that I can help any student who is motivated to improve their writing. Since my PhD thesis was described by the assessor as 'outstanding', I feel qualified and confident to assist students to write better essays. I can help with language, structure, style, and tone. I can help international students with English expressions.

Hobbies
I love good films and books and celebrate great writing. I sing in a community choir and walk regularly in the Adelaide hills. I'm close to my family and friends and we enjoy good meals and good times together. I also enjoy walking around cities when I travel and discovering the secrets on foot. I like to visit art galleries and enjoy tinkering with the arts through WEA classes in drawing, sculpture and painting.
