Education

Completing a Masters in Education for Sustainability, together with a Bachelor of Science majoring in both Marine Biology and Natural Resource Management has equipped me with a strong foundation in marine and environmental sciences. From these courses I gained a comprehensive understanding of the natural environment, excelling at subjects such as; Biology, Marine Studies, Evolution of the Earth, Conservation Biology, Science Nature Knowledge and Understanding, and Education for a Sustainable Future. During my post and undergraduate studies I also developed a series of educational posters and workbooks to guide environmental education in the community, classroom and home.

Experience

Over the past five years I have worked for both the state and federal Public Service as a Liaison and Project Officer for respective environmentally focused government agencies. Prior to these corporate positions, I worked for the national education facility of the Great Barrier Reef- Reef HQ. There I acted as an Education Officer and was responsible for the development and presentation of educational talks and tours for both the general community and students. I often conducted school holiday programs, ReefSleeps and general school tours. I also worked for an NGO on Sustainable Coasts projects; working with the community and local stakeholders. I have a track record of demonstrating leadership to younger generations through my various roles as a coach, umpire, House Captain (& Assistant House Captain), Guide leader etc.

Hobbies

I love meeting new people and will make friends with just about anyone. I love to volunteer for charities and non-for-profit organisations (if volunteering was a career- I would do it). I like to fill my time with yoga, reading, riding, hiking, kayaking, food, travel, music, gardening and just general exploring (camping!). I am currently working on a sustainability side project which involves the development of a number of educational resources aimed at making the science of sustainability more 'digestible' to the majority of global citizens (everyday people- not just the scientists). I have spent A LOT of time listening and helping young people to develop their own rationalities about their development and aspirations. We are all different, we all think and learn differently and I think some kids get left behind in the school system because its so strictly structured one way. If you can tailor an idea to a students interest- than you will create a master, its when you expect them to follow suit that you will loose them to the wayside.
